Sparkle and Lace

sparkle 4We’re moving into the Holiday season, surprisingly Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away! Which means Holiday attire. When it comes to Holiday attire there are two things to remember:

Sparkle and Lace.

A little shimmer and a little lace is the perfect combination for holiday attire. And curls, curls and more curls! For Thanksgiving especially, you want to be comfortable in preparation for that food coma at the end of the night. Simply pair a lacey, breezy tunic with your “fat” pants, add some sparkles in the accessories and pair with a cute wedge. Stylish and prepared, that’s how I like it!

Wedding Attire

I have the hardest time picking out outfits for weddings. And with wedding  season in full swing  I am left with several questions. Is it casual? Fancy? What colors are used in the wedding theme? Am I wearing the same color as the bridesmaids? All valid questions when picking you wedding attire.

There are three easy ways to pick out wedding attire:

1. Look at the invite. Usually invitations reveal the type of event your attending. The location of the event speaks to the kind of event it it, fancy or more casual. The invitations are usually done in the theme colors the Bride and Groom are using, so you can stay away from wearing the same colors as the bridal party.

2. Layer. Especially if its an outdoor wedding layers are alway good. Pair one of your more formal dresses with a casual jacket. That way you can gage the event when you get there and remove the jacket if needed.

3. Pack light. Always bring a small purse with only the necessities. Don’t forget the lipsticks so you can reapply.

Here’s the approach I took:

I paired my favorite formal dress with a jean jacket, and heeled boots. Add some more daring accessories such as a flower crown and bold necklace to keep it fresh and unique to your personal style.

I added my flower crown to a plain black hat, and paired it with one of my favorite dresses and a pair of chunky heels. This outfit is perfect for a concert, garden party or sunday brunch.

Thrift Shop Finds.

Who knew the Goodwill was home to such treasures. This outfit took several trips to the thrift shop to assemble but I am leaving the house today in an outfit that cost me less than twenty dollars… let the Macklemore song commence!  I used to find thrift shops overwhelming and the idea of people rummaging for items well, gross. There are just so many items all bunched together all smelling like mothballs. But now its all about the thrill of the hunt for me. Thrift shops are an adventure, there are so many hidden gems in what people don’t want anymore.

Here are some tips I have found helpful when going into a thrift shop

1. Have time. The treasures are usually hidden amongst items that should have been left in the eighties and those vacation t-shirts people only wear once.

2. When you find a hidden treasure try it on! If you don’t try it on it’s just going to end up right where you found it after it sits in your closet for a few months.

3. Examine your find. Check the tag, check for small rips and tears, look at for those stains.

4. Try on the funny stuff. If you see an item that is so eighties, or just down right strange. Give it a try, you never know.

5. Check the tag. Sometimes thrift shops have different colored tags, and everyday a different tag is 50 percent off.

6. WASH your clothes went you get home.

She’s so Fancy: Throwback

I am dreaming of some cold weather right about now so I searched the archives for some winter weather style pictures.  Yes, I dragged my cousin and sister out into the woods but the results I think were worth the risk of frost bite.

Now I’m not saying I’m ready for snow already however, I do miss going outside without sweating. And jackets….I miss jackets!!!!

Thanks to Emily and Annie for putting up with my crazy ideas.

The best way to achieve these looks are LAYERS! Layers, layers and more layers. Something that is not needed in upstate New York right now but definitely a trend I am currently missing.  Tie a flannel around your waist grab your favorite bomber and this look is yours. Its never too early to start searching for good transition pieces from warm to chilly weather.

Not So Plain Tee

Tees are essential to any girls wardrobe however, I find my self lacking in the “plain tee” department. Why do plain tees have to be so well, plain? New silhouettes spice up the notion of “the plain tee” and still give your statement pieces their time to shine. I am personal fan of these three boho cut tops.

Pair this top with a tight fitting skirt and some statement booties for a night out on the town. This look is perfect for evening and to think you’re still wearing a tee shirt.

Put this tee over a dress for a casual summer day of errands or outing with the gals. The high-low compliments the dress perfectly for those cooler days summer when you need those shoulders covered.

Throw on your favorite flowing top paired with floral shorts and a flower crown for the perfect festival look. Comfortable fabrics in longing flowing layers are perfect for concert hopping. Honestly, it’s like you are wearing your jammies.

None of these looks would be complete without a necklace (or two). Add some jewels and the new plain tees are set for any occasion.

She’s so Fancy (Photographer Edition): Molly

My mom’s friend Molly a few months ago did a photo session with my sister and I for a project she titled Made to be Free. You can find the full gallery here

Here is my personal favorite from this series.

be free     be free 2

She has such an eye for expressing a person’s natural, God-given beauty and of course all she has a keen eye for fashion as well.

Molly is a beauty and here are some interesting facts about her:

1. Her dog has been to the vet more times than any other dog. Included but not limited to the time her eat a bag of expresso beans.

2. She works at a pregnancy center serving pregnant women. She’s a star!

3. She always seems to find the BEST thrift and consignment deals. Her talent is unrivaled, hands down. Needless to say I need to take her with me thrifting because I am not so lucky in that department.

Molly came up for a business trip to good ‘ole upstate New York and we made time to fit in a little photo session in my back yard. Here is some of her best shots.

Molly’s entire philosophy surrounding her series was to live in the freedom we have been given, and to embrace all forms of beauty. In the end that’s what  Proprium Floris is all about. Embracing and expressing many forms of beauty, no matter what size, shape, height, color, complexion. This type of freedom currently isn’t embraced by the fashion industry so I want to encourage the broadening of the industry to include more types of beauties. Everyone is free to be beautiful and fashion is not just for models.
