Festival Ensemble

I know Coachella has come and pasted however, we are still in the heart of festival season. This means fringe, floral crowns, moonies, and maxi dresses are a must.  This festival season I found the perfect shirt, and Im obsessed with it!

swing tunic

You can find this shirt here along with all your festival needs.

There are several ways to wear this top. Pair it with floral jeans for those cooler summer nights and some Chelsea boots.

This tunic can also be worn as a dress with heels for a night out or with cutoffs for a day in the park or that music festival you have tickets for.

With a headpiece, gladiator sandals and a bold necklace this top is ready for any summer outdoor adventure.

When it’s 65 in March

Well people, if you live in the Philly area you know that at one point before the wind became unbearably cold again we were teased with a sliver of spring heaven. It was 65! (Sun’s out guns out am I right?)  What better way to spend the day than avoiding homework to hit the park without tights!!! This hasn’t happened since what, September?

Any hoo, Spring I swear is almost here, and with spring comes all the joys of spring dressing. This is personally my favorite season to dress because frankly it’s the only season both jackets and sandals function together.

IMG_1652

(Okay I wasn’t wearing sandals, but I could tell mother nature was trying to trick us.)

IMG_1653

Dressing spring is so simple, unlike the complicated layering required for winter. Ditch the hats, gloves, scarves, and parka for a maxi dress and jean jacket. That’s all you need to look fabulous! Accessorize with a statement necklace and some moonies and get outside!

My favorite maxi’s for this season have a great all over print. They make a statement while still looking  effortless.

Take it to the streets and soak up that much needed vitamin D. The winter blues are over…well almost. Spring is around the corner which means, its almost practically summer.

She’s So Fancy: Kristie

IMG_0781

Meet Kristie, my fellow painter and extremely stylish friend. We even have the same boots, and often come to class matching. #twinsies

Here are some facts about her:

-She has the greatest collection of thrift shop flannels. I envy her ability to find so many. You can never really have enough flannels and thrift shops are the perfect place to find what I like to call “real” flannels.

– She cannot live without pizza or cosmetics.  Preach girl!

-She is a list maker. So pen and planner is a must have at all times.

-Her fashion influences come from the underground fashion blogger scene, those bloggers that should be known, or will be known. Their Instagrams are banging, as Kristie would put it.

Kristie’s style is clean and polished with a boho flair. Simple shapes and styles paired with one of kind pieces give her day to day looks a classic edge. I often find myself having extreme closet envy.  Girl’s got style.

Fierce right? Kristie is sporting fall in an oversized tweed coat, with summer’s favorite sundress peaking out, tights and warm socks. Leather Chelsea boots, and feather felt hat complete the look.  This look is effortlessly cool.

Pattern Play

As, dare I say it, snow begins to fall on the east coast it is time to think in layers, layers and more layers. Layers provide so many opportunities to take risks and channel your inner “bag lady” if you know what I mean. Patterns are what can turn the outfit from verging on eskimo to fashionable.

IMG_0762

Mixing a bold pattern with more subtle one for example, a striped crop with this geo print cardi, can pull together a visually interesting outfit.

IMG_0890For those colder nights,  throw on a coat with some fur, and chunky scarf (Tyra says models need neck, but clearly she hasn’t been outside in November, the bigger the scarf, the better).  A beanie helps to. And for those really cold days, use sweat pants for traveling purposes. They have helped me get place to place under a skirt.

Sparkle and Lace

sparkle 4We’re moving into the Holiday season, surprisingly Thanksgiving is less than two weeks away! Which means Holiday attire. When it comes to Holiday attire there are two things to remember:

Sparkle and Lace.

A little shimmer and a little lace is the perfect combination for holiday attire. And curls, curls and more curls! For Thanksgiving especially, you want to be comfortable in preparation for that food coma at the end of the night. Simply pair a lacey, breezy tunic with your “fat” pants, add some sparkles in the accessories and pair with a cute wedge. Stylish and prepared, that’s how I like it!

Check out Free People and ASOS for all things lace and sparkle.

Fall Layers

Layers are essential to any fall look as the weather gets nippy (its my favorite weather). Tights, sweaters, knee high socks, hats, gloves, scarf, and boots can all be components of one outfit.  The key is to consider the length of the garments you are layering and what goes on top.

Moments like this can really keep the shivers away. Layering a maxi cardigan under a jean jacket paired with plaid twill pants and a beanie is a perfect outfit for spectating those late night soccer games. My sister is also doing it right with statement patchwork pants, fuzzy boots, sweater under a fleece jacket and beanie to keep those ears nice and toasty.

For those warmer fall days I paired the same maxi cardigan with a wool dress and knee high socks. If the temperature drops add some tights under the socks and a coat to add some extra warmth.

Going on a nature walk in October? No problem.  Throw on a beanie, flannel shirt and jean jacket over your favorite lace dress and leggings. Paired with some hiking boots and you’re off on that hike in style.

So there you have it. Layer, layer layer. It’s the perfect way to show off all your favorite pieces in one  look. This trend can easily be taken into weather by you guessed it, adding MORE layers. Though, Im not quite ready for that yet.

To find pieces like the ones seen here check out Free People and Urban Outfitters for inspiration.

Little White Dress

Currently, I have the best job ever, working as a stylist at Free People in Philadelphia. From time to time I get to try on some amazing pieces, and take a few shoots.

Currently I am obsessed with this dress,

33388901_011_0

It is the perfect little white dress, and it goes swimmingly with a pair of thigh highs, you favorite pair of clogs and a floppy black hat. Three of my favorite things.

He’s So Fancy: Curtis

IMG_5504

Meet Curtis. My best friend.

Here are some fun facts about him:

1. Curtis has a strong hatred for cats, to the point where sometimes I believe he’s afraid of them…and I like to make fun of him for it. (Even though, I myself, am not a fan of cats but, he doesn’t need to know that.)

2.  He is a man, who owns his very own Tardis. Honest.

3.  He loves a good independent film, no matter universally terrible independent film endings are. ( I highly suggest After the Dark. That is our favorite).

Curtis and I live in the same hometown and now go to the same college. He has been my companion for about three years now and actually, we first met at my senior prom (insert Awwwww).  His style is almost as killer as his heart. And let’s face it, the camera loves him.

Curtis loves bold patterns and man accessories, which I am a personally a huge fan of. He shows off his style in a tribal button up, gray pants, combat oxford boots paired with a pocket-watch necklace, ring, bracelets and a corduroy cap.

Check out his band, called twisted vibes. (He’s the lead singer) They have an ep out! Find out all about them here

To get the Curtis look raid your nearest thrift shop or vintage shop.  Also check out these fine retailers ASOS, PacSun, and Urbanoutfitter.

Lastly, this note is for you Curtis. Thanks for being my sunshine on cloudy days. Sometimes I make my own clouds and you make them go away despite my sass. Thanks for being my best friend and model. I love you dear.

Philadelphia Selfies

In honor of Free Peoples release of their new catalog called #fpselfieedition I thought i’d share some selfies I’ve taken in the last few months.

Selifes are sweeping social media, and are becoming a new way in which we document ourselves. Its a new form of portraiture and whether or not its a good or bad fad we all still take selfies. It is a new form of photography since the invention of the double camera phones.

Flashback Friday: Insane Asylum

One of my favorite places to take picture is an abandon state school in my hometown (state school is a humane term for insane asylum). Rumors have been more or less confirmed that this place was shut down in the 80’s for suspicious detainee deaths. Since its closed this building has been abandoned. Its eerie decay and old style architecture sparks my interest and inspiration.  I am incredibly blessed to have willing participants for these shoots, and such great backdrops minutes away from my home. I have done several shoots at this site, so here’s a throwback to the first time I discovered it last summer (back when Annie still had her pixie).  It is for sure on of the sites I will miss now that I have relocated.
